Discover How A Golf GPS Device Can Improve Your Game
It seems that everyone I play with these days – from single digit handicappers to handicaps in the 20’s – has some form of a GPS device for the golf course. I have personally used such a device for about four years and I love it. So why have these devices become so popular?
What does it do?
Basically, these devices use the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites to pinpoint where you are on the course and display yardage to the green or some other point such as a hazard. They have many features such as recording your score, keeping statistics, displaying the layout of each hole and many more. However, the one basic feature that means the most to me is knowing the yardage to my target.
Why a golf GPS device is so beneficial.
Obviously, a GPS is not going to help you hit the ball farther or straighter. But, by knowing the precise yardage to your target you quickly become aware of which clubs to use for a given yardage. Given that knowledge, club selection becomes much easier – no more guessing.
For example, most devices give you the yardage to the front, center and back of the green. Let’s say that a pin location is near the front of a green and the distance to the center is 90 yards. Many amateurs would choose a club that they were comfortable with for that distance. But wait! The yardage to the front of the green is only 75 yards. Do you think that would make a difference in your club selection? You bet.
Another advantage is being aware of the distance to a hazard such as a creek or pond. Should I lay up or attempt to hit over the hazard? These decisions become much easier when you know the yardage and what distance you are comfortable hitting.
In summary, the golf GPS device allows you to be more knowledgeable about your game – something that all golfers strive for. And, it gives you the confidence that you can select the proper club for each shot. As you may have heard, when you are confident with your club selection, you are more likely to hit a better shot. So go for it – I don’t think you will be disappointed.
